Charlevoix Pier Light

Charlevoix, Michigan

I didn't plan on stopping in Charlevoix, as it was late in the day, and Mackinaw City was the night's destination. But as we passed over the drawbridge in Charlevoix, the low sun framed a gorgeous golden silhouette on the light tower. So I was compelled to stop, grab the tripod, and set up for a photo. Just seconds before this picture was taken the golden light vanished, and a downpour engulphed me. By the time I got back to the car I was drenched. But Charlevoix is a charming town in a beautiful spot, and as it turned out, I wished I could have stayed much longer to explore the many shops lining the main street. In fact, the drive from Traverse City to the Mackinac Bridge, along Grand Traverse Bay, is very scenic.

The light is not too old ... built in 1948, and exhibiting a Fifth Order lens.
