Lorain West Breakwater Lighthouse
Lorain, OH

The Lorain West Breakwater Light was undergoing renovation when I stopped to take this photo in July of 1999. Constructed in 1917 by the Army Corps of Engineers, the light has stood inactive for over 30 years. The original fourth order Fresnel lens was removed in 1965 and the lighthouse was nearly demolished. Local residents saved it, however, and today the light is owned by the Port of Lorain Foundation.
