This typical Lake Michigan pierhead-with-catwalk lighthouse was constructed in
1904, replacing the original Michigan City Light,
which is now a nearby museum. A rotating beacon has replaced the original
fifth-order lens, which is also on display at the museum.
It's said that in the 1920's Al Capone often zoomed past the light in his speedboat, on his way to weekend escapes from his stressful gangster lifestyle.
